Homepage: http://community.corest.com/~gera
Notes: I've been for a long time out of the Squeak community, and now I feel confused by all the new and exciting ways of participation and sharing (SqueakPeople, SqueakMap, Monticello, the good old swiki, etc)... I need somebody to introduce me to all this new beings! Please!
Anyway, I used to help developing the MorphicWrappers, I was part of the MathSqueak project, and developer on SqueakNOS... as soon as I get used to SqueakPeople et.al. I'll update my state in all this...
This person is:
- a Developer on project MorphicWrapper.
- a User on project VMMaker.
- a Lead Developer on project SqueakNOS.
Recent diary entries for gera:
Last night was a long night... but one of those you really enjoy :)Today, SqueakNOS booted on the OLPC. With lots of help from Mitch Bradely, who invented the Open Firmware running on the OLPC.
Current state of SqueakNOS/OLPC: IRQs are handled from Squeak, timer, keyboard, mouse, cmos and PCI bus scanning are working. The OLPC is, at some point, very much compatible with a standard PC computer, in hardware terms, that's why it was possible to do it so quickly. (that and Mitch Bradely help).
For the OLPC, and exclusively for the sake of development speed, we are looking into interfacing with the Open Firmware to access the devices. Even if this is possible, we'll still want to reimplement device drivers in Squeak.
Stay tunned for new releases of SqueakNOS
ESUG 2008 release available!: SqueakNOS ESUG.Oh yes, we are back from the dead... again :) We've been invited to give a talk at the ESUG 2008 in Amsterdam (what a really beautiful city!). And we also opened a Camp Smalltalk table, where we gathered to work on several important things:
Simplifying the process of NOSifying any Squeak image [done]
Simpliging the test cycle using VMWare [done] Implement SD card reader support [started] Implement USB UHCI support [started] In this new release we also include a new implementation of the PS2Keyboard, and more importantly, the presentation we used in ESUG 2008.

New release available: SqueakNOS-08-Aug-2006.iso
This release was reorganized for a clearer distribution and to be in synch with the article "SqueakNOS: Building, changing, booting and installing.".
It also has Lance and Realtek8139 network cards initialization by default, as well as TCP/IP stack initialization, except for setting up the IP address, which should be done from the Workspace.

New article posted
I posted a new article in the SqueakNOS series: SqueakNOS: Building, changing, booting and installing. Take a look if you are interested in making modifications to SqueakNOS (and testing the modifications). Or if you want to make a bootable USB disk with SqueakNOS.

RTL8139 working and NetSqueak integrated into SqueakNOSRealtek8139PCIDevice can receive and send perfectly!!! but way more important, Luciano is working a lot on NetSqueak and now we have integrated all his work in SqueakNOS, and... IP, ARP, ICMP are working, UDP should be working and TCP is almost working (You can open a listening port in SqueakNOS and telnet from outside for example, or you can open an outgoing connection). New release coming soon
