Personal info for bpagano

This person is currently certified at Apprentice level.

Name: Brian Pagano

Notes: Chief Architect/CTO for a software company. We're starting to move some of our projects to smalltalk. I've been passionate about Smalltalk for a long time and I'm thrilled at the chance to use it more. Hopefully, I'll be documenting the steps of the conversion that we're making and possibly do some comparative analysis between concurrent projects in Java (etc...) and Smalltalk.

Out with the flu today- so it seems as good a time as any to start "logging" my notes concerning our conversion to Smalltalk. First, however, I want to thank everyone for the helpful replies that I received via email and on the Squeak-dev mailing list.

My idea is to use this venue for notes and thoughts. Once I've collected them into some kind of coherent format, I'll probably post acutal documents to the swiki (where others can stir in their experiences). My ultimate goal is to create a series of documents that walk managers, project managers, and developers (different documents obviously) through the various mental and physical steps necessary to switch one or more of their products/projects to Smalltalk. I've found that some people really appreciate a semi-linear path that moves them from point A to Point D step-by-step.

Right now we're starting development on a brand new, server-side product in Squeak. I also have a standing wager with the company's CEO concerning Seaside for a web portal that we'll be developing in conjuction with one of our other products. If I can teach a junior to mid-level programmer how to get around in the Smalltalk environment and language in two days + the basics of Seaside- we'll build the portal in Smalltalk. No problem, right? hehe.
