Scripting Workspace
I just released the first version of a new project I call the "Scripting Workspace". It's nothing to shout at right now. In fact, it's very simple. But, before I left for Camp Smalltalk, I read about people disregarding Smalltalk because you can't do things in the workspace that you can do in other scripting languages. I thought we needed to provide a bridge for these people. The reason being if they could do what they normally do in other scripting languages, they could see past the workspace and use the full environment. I've found this code to be nice to begin class construction and then move once workspace code got too big. Anyway, it's a little tool that I thought others might like and it's to make people used to JavaScript, Ruby, Python, Perl, etc more comfortable in our world when they are beginning.

It's available on SqueakMap. ENJOY!

Java Serialization: New Version
I added byte code disassembly to the most current version. It's very very basic at this point, but I plan on adding a little bit here and there. The serialization mechanism is pretty solid (as long as there are no custom serialization methods used) and the class loader works great. So, disassembly is the next step with the interpreter not too far behind it.

Seaside Presentation
I gave a presentation recently at the Omaha Smalltalk User's Group and it went well. I've given it a couple more times to just single folks and everyone gets really excited about it. If you would like to play with the presentation (it's written in Seaside 2.5), you can download it and install in your Squeak image here. It has two example applications (one simple and one modeling a bank account front-end). I think I'm going to write all of my future presentations in Seaside. It was just TOO EASY to do it!

Java Serialization
DONE! Well, at least I can now read and write serialized Java objects. I can also read in compiled Java classes. I put the latest version on Squeak Map here. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Next step is to be able to execute java code in Squeak. I'm just excited to have this first part of it done! I'm still not happy with some aspects and plan to be cleaning them up.

Java Serialization
I decided this weekend to finish up where I left off in the code. I'm finding a lot of loose ends that I was half-way finished with certain refactorings. I'm embarassed of the state of the code. But, I plan on finishing it. I started this project 2 years ago and I've been doing it off and on because of work taking over my life. Not anymore, I want to finish this up and move on to bigger Java fish so to speak. My goal is to have the writing back out of Java objects to be finished by the end this month and clean up the code a lot. Then, I'll decide where I'll be going from there.

It should be a lot of fun!
